OH Darling is a fabulous indie band from Portland Oregon fronted by talented singer-songwriter and rising star Jasmine Ash. In our opinion, Oh Darling brings elements of classic pop-punk styles akin to Siouxie Sue, The Primitives and the Jesus and Mary Chain together to create a sound that is all their own. We think of it as a sublime rock'n'roll treat.

Herman Jolly "Sewer Train" from the CD
Bunker Life
Sunset Valley songwriter Herman Jolly is stepping out with a new solo record titled "Bunker Life" on Citrus To Citrus Records. The new CD is chock full of noise pop and cool lo-fi rock. Fans of Sunset Valley will likely dig it. He's gained a reputation over the past ten years as one of the NW's most interesting indie pop songwriters. "Like Robyn Hitchcock, ...Herman Jolly has a knack for writing wonderfully off-kilter yet oddly beautiful pop songs..." BARBARA MITCHELL -The Stranger

The Electric Crayon Set "Good Girl" from the CD Kitty Ruxpin
Sent to us all the way from Finland. This band is excellent! The Electric Crayon Set sites "the 60´s psychedelic/mod pop legacy of the Zombies, Small Faces and the Creation not forgetting the twisted pop geniuses of the 70´s, 80´s and 90´s...XTC" as influences. Pretty Cool! This is great psych pop from Finland, on SoundHawk Records. The band is the pet project of visionary Timo Pääkkö, who handles the guitar, lead vocal and songwriting in The ECS with skill and charm. He's assembled a great band including Seppo Tyni: Bass and Backing Vox, Pekka Tyni: Keyboards and Backing Vox, Timo Lilja: Drums and backing Vox, and Juha Kormano: Guitar and Backing Vox.
SPIV "Not Worth Repeatin'" from the CD
LIV (Digital Only Release)
From Denver CO., Pop Sweatshop Records mogul and Elvis impersonator Chris Barber is one diverse character. SPIV is his band. He's played a Playboy party at the Palms with Mini Kiss, rocked Olympia with Helltrout, jammed with Ginger Baker, and had records produced by Ken Stringfellow of Posies/REM.
Despite the fact that most rock fans look for a familiar band sound they can count on, SPIV makes a very different record every time whether it is coming from their origins in classic rock, dabblings in punk, alt or pop. Thieir new "downloadable only" CD is a collection of retro-style rockabilly songs titled "LIV" is no exception. From spiv.com, "SPIV 'LIV' (roman numerals for '54) is a collection of six songs written and recorded in six days at the Church Of Rock'n'Roll. Inspired by the Sun Studio sound of Elvis and Johnny Cash, SPIV added Tyson Murray of the Railbenders on standup bass, and used early recording techniques like slapback echo and a dollar bill in the guitar strings for percussion to create a lost SPIV demo from 1954." Look for the new SPIV record, Zeppelin V, in 2007!
Bill Skins 5th Will Punch You Right In The Face "Leaving This Town" from the CD Street Corner Trash Bag Rocking Out
Bill Skins 5th Will Punch you Right in the Face is Dead Kennedys meets the Doors influenced punk rock n roll with NO GUITARS! A new definition of "Power Trio" is in order with regards to Bill Skins. A completely independent band, they've self released 3 CDs featuring unique handmade artwork on each jewel box. Featuring Anthony James Cotham on vocals, keyboard, trombone; Inhumentor on bass, vocal, trumpet; and the inimitable Axe Hammer on drums, kazoo, and uke look for their Portland area shows in Fall 2007.
Winston "Snack Food" from the CD
Smith
Forest Marchini's new band Winston are young lads from Cottage Grove, Oregon. According to their myspace page they "...will play parties for free", and take pride in their acheivements as members of various esteemed youth music organizations in their home town. The title of their CD demo is "Smith" a reference to the George Orwell novel, "1984". Wearing their grunge influences on their sleeves, Winston's rocking the NW with frequent shows in the Willamette valley.
The Lonely H "The Meal" from the CD
HAIR
Mark Fredson (Vox, Keys),
Eric Whitman (Guitar),
Colin Field (Guitar),
Ben Eyestone (Drums),
and Johnny Whitman (Bass).
Reeling from their recent success, someone from The Lonely H said "Girls screaming, piercing-your-ears-screaming. Man, that's really awesome. But, it hurts at the same time." The Lonely H is an impressive young band from Port Angeles, WA. getting used to the sounds of hysterical young rockstar-struck ladies across the USA. They have made an intricate and impressive power pop record titled "Hair", out now on Seattle indie label The Control Group.
These guys are on tour this summer, playing coast to coast and many stops in between. If their record is any indicator, Lonely H is not to be missed. "Hair" displays a predilection for passionate rock vocals and thoughtfully arranged music played with skill and finesse. It's sure to please hysterical young women and indie rockers everywhere.
This rocking and popping band is comprised of J. Marie Hall on bass, Daven Hall (Thrillbilly) on guitar, Shane Fischer on drums, and is fronted by Jasmine Ash on lead vocals and keyboards/percussion. Friends, together by virtue of "Love", Oh Darling offer their hook filled live show from the MastanMusic Studio.
OH Darling's Bio on their website simply reads, "Two girls, two guys, one great band". Our live guests in this part 2 of Episode 28 of the MastanMusic Hour, the Portland based Oh Darling formed in 2006 and released a self titled CD EP (now out of print, but available on itunes for download) to rave local reviews.
They are working on a new CD and have shows coming up like weeds, including an appearance at the Oregon State fair on August 30, 2007.
OH Darling has just released an incredibly cool new video produced by Kyle Oddson of the song "Waking Up On A Train". Thousands of photos were used to make this artistic video. Check it out at www.kyleoddson.com
