Some of the Best CDs of 2007 Show |
Lael Alderman
"Tall In A Short City" from the CD
Of Birds, Devils and the Heart |
Lael Alderman has made a great new record, "Of Birds, Devils and the Heart". Making it's way into several "Best Local New Release" pick lists this year, the making of the new record was a labor of love and born out of a long standing collaboration with local producer Gregg Williams (Sheryl Crow, Dandy Warhols). The former Bella Fayes frontman really delivers this time around with some great pop tunes, including "She's Tall IN A Short City". Check out the live video of Lael singing this song live, solo/acoustic in our studio in Episode 13 of the MastanMusic Hour .
Visit Lael on the web at Lael Alderman MySpace Page for more
info and to buy his new CD.

Leigh Marble
"Gave It All" from the CD
Red Tornado |
Leigh Marble's new CD, "Red Tornado" (Laughing Stock records) is making a splash on the NW music scene. He's known for his passionate live shows and well crafted songs. Leighs trio of guitar, organ and drums creates a junkyard pop that supports his angry lyrical tone. Leigh and his band were guests recently on the MastanMusic Hour. Check out a live performance of "Gave It All" in the MastanMusic Hour Episode 35.

Casey Neill
"We Are THe City" from the CD
Brooklyn Bridge |
Casey Neill writes great punk influenced folk songs
and sings them in a rough hewn baritone. A truly "bi-coastal" artist, he's lived both in New York City and Portland, OR
and has drawn inspiration from living in both places. His latest offering, "Brooklyn Bridge", comes from
In Music We Trust Records, and includes this featured track, "We Are the City".

The Fast Computers
"Gravity/Love" from the CD
Heart Geometry |
Portland's The Fast Computersare quickly establishing themselves as a national act, on the heels of their new release "Heart Geometry". “The syncopated rhythms and interlocking melodies on Fast Computers' first album, Heart Geometry, fit tightly together as though perfectly measured... powerful, haunting and stark, but it also seems organic and natural...one of the year's most satisfying releases.”-NPR That's pretty heady praise coming from National Public Radio. Rumor has it that they put on a pretty good live show too. They've been packing the crowds in around town. Digg it!

Jon Garciay
"Heart Shaped Skeleton Keys" from the CD
Jon Garcia |
Jon Garcia's
"dreamy pop" is available on his self titled debut CD. Performing both with and without a band, he's toured extensively.
His tripped out falsetto presents his dramadies in a fitting way. With songs about losing his girlfriend to a fat guy, and getting punched in the nose, the dark quality of the music is offset at times by the lyric content. Treat yourself right and check him out live in 2008.
Check out Jon Garcia Myspace for more show listings.

Jared Mees
"Live Fiction" from the CD
If You Wanna Swim With the Sharks |
Tender Loving Empire main man and
our featured artist in Episode 29,
Jared Mees has a knack for writing quirky,
self effacing alt pop and folk songs. Most notably influenced by Neutral Milk hotel, and Steve Malkmus, he still has his own distinct strained tenor that really works.
Check out Jared Mees MySpace for show listings.
