Jon Itkin "Bismarck" from the CD
Big Gold Guitar In The Sky
By the sounds of Jon Itkin's new self released CD, one might not even consider that the person writing these songs and playing the guitar is a mere 24 years of age. The former Scotland Barr guitarist sounds years older and "world weary" than most guys at that point in their lives. This Oregonian has done an excellent job choosing experienced and gifted studio musicians and producers to round out what he calls his "A little country, a little rock 'n roll, some ragtime, some old-time, soul and blues" songs on this new CD "Big Gold Guitar in the Sky". Produced by Chet Lyster (Guitarist for the Eels), the CD includes such Portland notables as Rich Landar on keys (Richmond Fontaine, Floater) Paul Brainard on steel guitar (M Ward, the Sadies, Richmond Fontaine) and vocalist Annalisa Tornfelt. He has posted bi-coastal tour dates with his band "Some Like Minded Souls" spanning July - September of 2007 on his websites at http://www.myspace.com/jonitkin.

Mirah w/ Marisa Anderson "Nola" from the CD
PDX POP NOW! 2006
Mirah Yorn Tov Zeitlyn has created an extensive discography over the past ten years. She wrote her first song at age four, and has since released 10 CDs, more recordings than many artists do in a lifetime, in one decade. Following a stint building log cabins in Norway, she began her 10 release run with the Storageland EP on Yoyo Recordings in 1997, then signed to K Records in 1999. Her forthcoming K Recording, "Share This Place; Stories and Observations" is due out on August 7, 2007. She's charmed her way into the hearts of NW music lovers with her unique style and wit. Mirah performs and tours regularly, playing concert halls and, recently, the 2007 Sasquatch Festival in the Gorge. The former Olympian and Evergreen State College graduate is heard here in collaboration with Marisa Anderson on "NOLA", a track to benefit Gulf Coast hurricane survivors and released on the 2006 PDX POP NOW! compilations CD.

The Empty "Collision Magnet" from the CD
More Positive Material
The Empty Next up is Portland indie rock outfit, The Empty and the song "Collision Magnet", a track from their 2005 Greyday Records release, More Positive Material. According to their bio, "The Empty reemerged into the Northwest scene after six challenging months of acoustic writing sessions and countless hours in cramped apartment studios and friend's garages. Uniting with long lost pal, drummer Matt Humiston, for the recording process in March 2005," The time was well spent. "More Positive Material" sounds great, and currently they are a regular on Portlands club scene with upcoming July 2007 dates at Satyricon and the Ash St. Saloon.

Jonny Manak "Gimmie Rock and Roll" from his new CD
Rebound Town
photo of Jonny Manak on mastanmusic.com San Jose based recording artist Jonny Manak is a pro skater and full-time punk. HIs "Gimme Rock n Roll" from Rebound Town, his recent Reach Around Records is "out of control" rock n roll with a punk edge. Jonny recorded everything himself. After paying his dues in over 35 San Fransisco area punk bands, he felt he'd earned the right to be "self indulgent" and make a true solo record. "Self indulgent" is hardly a good descriptor for Jonny Manak and the Depressives- time worn phrases like "stripped down", "balls out rock" , or employing, "a healthy dose of humor and attitude" come to mind. If a perfect blend of Iggy Pop and Chuck Berry and the Sonics might float your boat go see Jonny Manak and the Depressives at one of their many shows this year, including many dates in Southern California.

Filthy White Trash "Broke Ass" from the CD
Free Ride
photo of Filthy White Trash promo pic on mastanmusic.com Filthy White Trash is a Punk/Metal/Hardcore band from Portland, OR. Their self released CD Free Ride is available at Blackhouse Records and via their MySpace site. The band includes Art on Lead Vocal, J Crash on bass, Jess on drums and Jake on Guitar. In true enigmatic punk style, Filthy White Trash aren't fond of last names. Their new record was recorded here in Portland at Jackpot Recording Studio. Rock out here to "Broke Ass".

Headless Human Clones "Pat's Garage" from the CD
140/90
photo of HH Clones Record Cover on mastanmusic.com Headless Human Clones pride themselves on being eclectic. Made up of members Paolo Weatherbee (vocal, bass) Dave Hopkins (vocal, guitar) Don Viramontes (drums) D.J. Sarapina (percussion, trumpet, harmonica), they write sarcastic and catchy pop rock that employs influences as diverse as surf and techno music. Their latest CD 140/90 is out now and available at the bands shows here in Portland.
