The Bella Fayes

We kick off part one with The Bella Fayes tune Way Out Out There recorded and produced by this episode's guest DJ Gregg Williams.

Blitzen Trapper
photo of Blitzen Trapper on mastanmusic.com
National media have compared Portland, Oregon's Blitzen Trapper to musical geniuses like Beck, Syd Barrett and The Beatles-- and with good reason. Having explored everything from sprawling psych-rock to blunted instrumental funk, Blitzen Trapper mix it all up into an impossible sonic perfection.

UHF
UHF on mastanmusic.com We've been huge fans of UHF since they first put the band together in 1998. Even in those early days, UHF took the stage with confidence, and their sound seemed destined for fame. With each passing year and impressive new release, their talent continues to grow with a ferocity that's sure to explode out of the Northwest soon. They've got a new album in the works that slated to be released in April-- but you can get your UHF new music fix at The Doug Fir on March 9, 2007, when they'll be opening Jonah's CD release show!

Nancy Hess
image of Nancy Hess on mastanmusic.com When her former band, Seven Day Diary, split with Warner Bros. after 2 albums, Nancy Hess made the move from San Francisco to Portland. A solo artist now, she sometimes gets mislabled a "singer/song writer". But one need only listen to Hess' lush and layered, richly textured and strikingly beautiful and immediate debut solo effort, Away, to know that her talent extends far beyond that of your typical singer/song writer.

Velvet Elk
image of Don Dilego on mastanmusic.com The brainchild of musician and producer Don Dilego, Velvet Elk is a record label, recording studio, and free-form radio broadcast-- much like we are here at Mastan Studios! Gregg Williams recorded, mixed, and played drums on The City or The War, Dilego's track featured on this episode of The MastanMusic Hour.

Sheryl Crow
We're thrilled that Gregg Williams was able to bring Sheryl Crow's song Members Only to this episode of The MastanMusic Hour. Gregg played drums and percussion on the track, which is featured on Crow's The Globe Sessions, the 1999 Grammy Award winner for Best Rock Album and for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Reviewing Jon Garcia, Pernell Fowler of Skyline Press writes:

"This sonic journey brings you through metaphorical representations of every landscape and every time of the day while you listen to it. You can travel from the snow filled valleys of Mount Kilimanjaro, to the soft sun soaked plains of Germany and back with the raw emotions that come out with this record. Soft and indie, they still bridge the gap that many artists and albums can't do with their genre. One doesn't need to be a strict fan of this type of music to be able to relate to it and love it, just a few listens will get you hooked and keep you in a soft chair filled with fluffy furs of euphoria that let you fall asleep and dream your sweet nocturnal sleep forever.
