The Gentry
"Awkwardness!" from the CD
Sex by the Unit |
The Gentry hails from the "violence torn streets of Tanasbourne". Those of you familiar with the locale should have a laugh - as if the small stretch of suburbia is scary and urbane or something....Despite their proclivity to be associated with Hillsboro, they electro-rock pretty hard. And, they have just released a CD titled "Sex By The Unit".
Band Members:
Gino Mari
Steve Taylor

Chris and his band are some of the most talented and ambitious rockers in the city. The CD release party for their latest opus, "Movie Theater Haiku", is set for Dec 5 at the Someday Lounge, in Portland, Oregon. Photo by Cristin Norine.

Wow and Flutter
"A Little Help" from the CD
Golden Touch |
Wow and Flutter have been a band since 1996.
Their noise inflected pop is supercalifragalisticexpealidocious! Thoughtful peace-nick messages and aggressive, rocking guitars populate their fine sounds. They have a CD release party coming up at the Doug Fir Lounge on December 11. The superfantastic bill will also include PDX indie rockers Swim Swam Swum and Carcrashlander.
Band members:
Cord Amato: Vocal, Guitar, Keyboards
Ryan Matheson: Bass, keyboards, Vocal
Jack Houston: Drums, Vocal

Alan Cohen Experience
"Space Watch" from the CD
Alan Cohen Experience |
From Boston Mass., the Alan Cohen Experience tours the NE region extolling the virtues of strange political pop music. They deliver some eclectic sounds on their self titled debut. It's a spacey trip that includes a sonic mix of Wall of Voodoo Men, Without Hats and Steve Miller, with Blues Clues-like aesthetic simplicity.
Band members:
Alan William Cohen: thank you very much!

Hang Jones
"Caroline" from the CD
The Ballad of Carlsbad County |
Hang Jones, calls on his influences readily. Fortunately, his influences are high minded purveyors of Americana i.e. Townes Van Zandt and Steve Earle. His solo debut, a Western concept album titled "The Ballad of Carlsbad County", is accompanied by internet-only video releases that are designed to enhance the story line of the album.
Band members:
Hang Jones: Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin
Matt Cunitz: Upright Bass, Pump Organ, Vocals
Mayumi Urgino: Fiddle, Vocals
Check out more info about this band at their MySpace Website.

Katjon Band
"Machine Gun Ugly Doll" from the CD
Katjon Band |
Katjonband features Jon Langford (Mekons) and Kat EX, of the European punk collective known as The EX. Having spent ample time on the road together, the two artists eventually found time to collaborate in the studio on this self titled debut. Their minimalist approach to experimental rock makes the most of their duo lineup. Their lean and mean arrangements take unexpected turns but still incorporate cool, melodic hooks.
Band Members:
Jon Langford: Guitar, Vocals
Kat EX: Drums, Vocals

| ZOUAVES |
Live in this Episode 64 Part 2 of the MastanMusic Hour, Zouaves, performs live at Kellys Olympian at the MastanMusic Hour - Club Showcase.
