Summer Summer Summer Show - August 11, 2008 |
House Of Badger
"You Give Yourself Away" from the unreleased CD
Death Birds |
House of Badger are oft compared to Echo and the Bunnymen and Siouxsie & The Banshees. Those are apt comparisons, but HOB rocks a little harder. The band sports a vintage 80's aesthetic boosted by aggressive spurts of guitar interspersed with Amanda Kell's sparse lead vocal arranegements. "Employing everything from strange Middle Eastern instruments to theremins down to your good old Les Paul, you're sure to be reminded of something from your past musical adventures ..." Portland Mercury 02::07::2008 Check out their psychedelic show (which includes a video/film show to go along with the tunes) at Audiocinema (226 SE Madison, under Portland's Hawthorne Bridge) this August 30.

Transient Songs
"Plantation To Your Youth" from the CD
Plantation To Your Youth |
Transient Songs
is the brainchild of Seattle based musician John Frum. The cinematic garage-psych music of Transient Songs is sure to please fans of The Jesus and Mary Chain/Love and Rockets school of goth influenced pop punk. Reverb drenched vocals, distorted guitars and clunking drums and weird sound effects surround Frums voice like a trippy caccoon. Their latest release, "Plantation To Your Youth" is available now from Indian Casino Records.
Band Members:
John Frum – guitar, vocals, keys
Jimmy Andrews – Bass, guitars
Ballard Bob – Drums

Kleveland
"You're Not Sorry" from the CD
Harder |
Portland rockers Klevelandhave been rocking out in the studio with Sean Flora and Jeff Saltzman. The result is "Harder", a powerhouse of a record. Angry and aggressive, Stephanie Smith's new batch of tunes is sure to serve as a soundtrack for the aftermath of many broken relationships. Check them out on tour in California and Oregon this summer.
Band members:
Stephanie Smith aka "the Master Blaster" - guitar voc
Dave Camp "Smiling Dave" - guitar
Allen Hunter aka "Reverend Krazy" - bass
Danny Carbo aka "DC Carbotron" - drums

Disgustitron
"Snap" from the CD
...IS BORN |
The name Disgustitron conjures up a few questions right from the get-go. Not sure what to expect? Is it disgusting? Is it techno? Influenced by Depeche Mode and the Cure through the Joy Division filter, Disgustitron gives us heavily distorted guitars, foggy cool vocals and electronic percussion. Check out their Disgustitron Myspace page for a list of upcoming Portland shows in August and September.
Band members:
David Ian LiaBraaten
Henry Montejano III
Daniel Alexander Staton

| Hillfolk Noir |
Live in this Episode 56 Part 2 of the MastanMusic Hour, Hillfolk Noir was the second band at the MastanMusic July 11 showcase at Kellys Olympian. Their dark, somewhat spooky sound is a sure crowd pleaser wherever they go. Their charming stage presence enhances the experience in person, but the music shines through on this recording. You'll have these catchy hill songs stuck to the inside of your head for weeks to come.
The band is:
Travis Ward-guitar & singing
Alison Ward-cocktail kit & singing
Sam Merrick-baritone guitar & singing
Michael P. Waite-standup bass
