Episode 42 Parts 1 & 2
For Episode 42 Part 2 of the MastanMusic Hour, we were joined live in our studio by The Lonely H. They are currently on a national tour supporting their new release, "Hair", out on super hip indie label, The Control Group. Having gathered reviews and other press from such national media giants as Spin and MSNBC, the Lonely H have literally gone from hometown heroes to indie rock road dogs since graduating high school last year. In the case of the Lonely H, their youth is an asset, bringing energy to their psychedelic infused classic rock stylings. This is one of our favorite shows to date!

Cool Photos From Their MastanMusic Performance
The Lonely H with Jeremy Wilson at MastanMusic Studio during their fantastic live performance in Episode 42 part 2 of The MastanMusic Hour. From left to right is: guitarist Eric Whitman; bass player Johnny Whitman; Jeremy Wilson; singer/keyboardist Mark Fredson; and drummer Ben Eyestone. The Lonely H kicked off their 90 day Winter/Spring tour of the United States (and one show in Mexico!) by stopping into the studio and talking and rockin' out with us. Later that night the guys played at The Ash Street Saloon in downtown Portland, OR. That show rocked too! Check out these great photos taken by photographer Julianna Tobon by clicking HERE.

The June Umbrella
"Van Gogh" from the CD
Self Titled EP |
Counting the promise ring, Death Cab for Cutie, and Pedro the Lion as influences, Portland's
The June Umbrella
are atmospheric and engaging, compelling reviewers to wax ecstatic
about them in recent times. "last week on the show I made some disparaging remarks about bands who will add me on myspace that I don’t really fit with the format of the show and that i don’t really want to hear...(The June Umbrella) are the complete opposite of that...”
-Dave Cusick’s Post Modern Rock Show (Photo of The June Umbrella by Stephen Staley.
Band members:
Brian Hall - lead vocals, guitar
Josiah Henley - vocals, guitar
Claire Staley - bass guitar, keys
Adam Beam - drums

Winston
"Burn" from the CD
Love Me Today |
Winston is one of our a favorite rock bands from Cottage Grove, OR.
These guys have been at it for awhile, tearing up the emerald valley. Forest's vocals owe a bit to the grunge era. His lyrics are witty and thoughtful, supported by killer guitar riffs and tight drumming.
Band Members:
Forest: vocals/guitar
Harrison Moser: drums

The BLH 3
"Virginia" from the CD
tea, horse, and crime |
The BLH Three
is the song oriented project of Lee Howard. He's known primarily for his work in house and industrial music, having released records
on record labels Sunburn (sister label to the revered "Hardkiss" label), Ubiquity, Domestic, Zoe Majik and even made an appearance on a French Sony Compilation. His entire debut full-length LP, "A Stereo Couple", was employed on MTV's Real World "Hawaii" season." The BLHIII began as a drum and bass project, and was signed by Dj Deep Dish's Shinichi Records.
"The repetition of programming beats, synths, bass and strings and then striving to make these static loops sound organic lost it's charm"
Now days, the BLH three swings and twangs along with a familiar chug that brings Bill Calahans Smog to mid. Cool, low timbre vocals and understated guitars rule.

Rachael Taylor Brown
"You're Alright Sorla" from the CD
Half Hours With the Lower Creatures |
Rachel Taylor Brown is a Portland based singer songwriter. She plays the piano and "writes a lot". She has a beautiful and strong voice that fills the room whenever she sings. Her ornate and understated songs are decorated with respect for her obsession with musical toys, which she often employs on her records.
Local pop songsmith (and Sort Ofs bandmate) Chris Robley's Cutthroat Pop Records has released her new CD "Half Hours With the Lower Creatures".
She frequently performs live around Portland and on the occasional tour. Her shows worth the trip out in the rain! (photo by Krissy Weseloh)

Point Juncture Wa.
"Happy Ending" from the CD
Burnside NW Pop Compilation 2006 |
Point Juncture Wa
is a band with many nicknames. They are sort of like a mixed bag of Yo La Tango, The Breeders and Stereolab. That said, they don't sound dated or "90's". They sound great. They are 'now', baby. Their live shows are hi fi experiences featuring a 9 piece band at times. This spring they can be seen and heard opening shows for Portland favorites, Norfolk and Western.
Check out Point Junctures Wa for more info.

Boy Eats Drum Machine
"From An Oregon Shore" from the CD
MySpace Free Mp3 Download |
Johhny Ragel of Boy Eats Drum Machine doesn't take his recent success for granted. He says, "... after beating my head against a wall in a band for so many years",
the rise of BEDM has been a nice change of pace. Boy Eats Drum Machine is a hybrid of electronic sound and rock n roll energy.
They shake the house with aggressive beats topped off with memorable melodies and lyrics. You'll likely hear a lot more from these guys in the coming year. (Photo by Alicia J. Rose)

| The Lonely H |

The Lonely H are a hometown success story if there ever was one.
